Omnibus Amendment

The Omnibus Amendment is a compilation of perfecting language amendments to correct errors, insure consistency, and otherwise improve the language of the proposal. It will be offered as a single amendment at the March 17 senates meetings. If you believe one of these components is substantive, requiring individual attention and debate, please get in touch with George Watson at g.watson@asu.edu or (480) 965-2031. There will also be an opportunity at the Senate meetings to remove any component element of this Omnibus Amendment for separate consideration.

Be it hereby moved by the University Academic Council that the following amendments be accepted by a single vote, without dividing the question.

1. In Article I of the Constitution Section A.1., change "tenure-track" to "tenure-eligible".
[Rationale: This change in language is consistent with other sections of the ACD Manual.]

2. In Article I of the Constitution Section A.4., add "principal lecturers" to the parenthetical list of faculty.
[Rationale: This new classification now available for lecturers needs to be specified.]

3. In Bylaw II.B.10.a.1.b., replace the deleted "dean of ASU Libraries" with "University Librarian."
[Rationale: The dean is now designated as University Librarian. The omission of University Librarian was an oversight.]

4. For each bylaw title, replace "Bylaw . . . of the Constitution" with "Bylaw . . . of the University Senate"
[Rationale: The bylaws are the bylaws of the University Senate, not the bylaws of the constitution.]

5. In the "Purpose" at the beginning of ACD112-01, delete the word "may" from the proposed language "To provide an Academic Constitution and Bylaws by which faculty members and academic professionals of Arizona State University may participate in the governance and administration of the university and the development of university policy.
[Rationale: "may" implies that our participation requires permission or, alternatively, that we may or may not choose to participate.]

6. In Bylaw II.B.3.a, add "campuses" so that the line reads "Senate committees generally will deal with matters of policy which that pertain to two or more colleges, schools, campuses, or to the university as a whole."
[Rationale: A unified senate must be capable of addressing issues dealing with two or more campuses.]
